Laura is a Senior Associate in our Human Resources practice group working with clients in the education, care, manufacturing and retail sectors.

Laura advises on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law. This includes the provision of advice in relation to discrimination issues, atypical working, organisational change, and TUPE matters. Laura also regularly advises clients in respect of complex internal disciplinary, grievance and capability processes as well as negotiated exits and protected conversations, providing practical support and guidance throughout. Laura’s contentious work involves conducting and representing clients in relation to employment tribunal litigation often concerning claims of unfair dismissal, discrimination and whistleblowing.

Laura’s recent experience includes:

  • conducting Employment Tribunal proceedings in relation to a number of high value and complex Employment Tribunal claims including claims concerned with multiple allegations of discrimination, harassment and victimisation spanning over a number of years;
  • defending claims brought against HE institutions concerned with alleged less favourable treatment arising out of atypical contractual working arrangements commonly used within the sector within both the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal;
  • conducting Judicial Mediation within the Employment Tribunal to achieve commercial settlement of claims on behalf of various clients;
  • advising on the merger of a large FE college and a sixth form college;
  • advising clients regarding without prejudice discussions and drafting settlement agreements for senior terminations including the provision of collaborative advice in relation to the pensions and taxation implications of such terminations;
  • providing advice in response to threatened industrial action in relation to pay progression;
  • assisting clients with their response to the COVID-19 pandemic including advice surrounding requests from employees to work abroad as well as supporting institutions dealing with challenges from trade unions in respect of proposed risk assessments and return to work strategies.

Laura also delivers training and seminars to clients as well and also delivers updates for the education sector to various sector bodies.
