Dermot is a savvy disputes lawyer, who is an accredited mediator, and also has a wide experience as a practitioner in litigation and arbitration over the last 30 years’. Dermot brings commitment, energy, drive and innovation to his role as a disputes lawyer. Dermot focuses on advising clients in the specialist areas of construction & property disputes (across a wide range of issues from extensions of time, liquidated damages, to specific performance and related issues); and in general commercial disputes. As a commercial mediator and conciliator Dermot uses his skills to assist clients in resolving difficult and protracted commercial disputes and avoiding full trials in the courts/arbitrations.

  • Advising Ireland’s largest contractors on claims for extensions of time and final account disputes in Adjudications, mediations/conciliations and/or courts/arbitrations.
  • Advising an International Technology Company on Contentious Construction issues relating to the delay costs, variations and finalising claims on the final account.
  • Acting for Stena Line in a breach of contract dispute before the Commercial Court.
  • Acting for Dublin Port in various claims before the Commercial Court, including a claim for professional negligence and a separate claim for breach of contract.
  • Acting for Abtran in the defence of claims for breach of contract and/or breach of existing lease covenants in the Commercial Court with dilapidation and damages claims running to circa €10m.
  • Acting for Developer in securing specific performance of a contract for sale where the purchaser sought to rescind due to interference with Rights to Light - settled at mediation Dec 2019.
  • Advising Lorgan Leisure in asserting their statutory renewal rights for the Stillorgan Bowl in proceedings against a Kennedy Wilson Icav – defending an injunction in the Commercial Court and prosecuting the claim to a new tenancy in the Circuit Court.
  • Acting as mediator and conciliator in a number of different property and construction related disputes.
  • Acting for International chain of retail shops on various Landlord and Tenant issues.
  • Acting in two claims relating to enforcement of Performance Bond obligations following the collapse of large construction companies during construction phase of contract (on a Wind Farm and on a large residential housing development).
