Wesley is a member of our Litigation and Dispute Management group in Hong Kong and specialises in international arbitration.

He has over a decade of experience in advising private and sovereign clients on commercial and investor-State disputes under various institutional rules. This experience includes representing clients in energy sector and infrastructure project disputes in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

He worked for several years with a major US law firm in their New York, Paris and London offices. During this time he worked on some of the largest, most complex disputes in the world.

Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Wesley was Managing Counsel at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC). He led a team of counsel and deputy counsel within the Secretariat handling the Centre’s caseload under various HKIAC rules, the UNCITRAL Rules and the Hong Kong Arbitration Ordinance.

  • acting for a Hong Kong-listed financial institution in an arbitration seated in Hong Kong under the 2018 HKIAC Rules against a borrower 
  • acting for a digital currency trading firm in an arbitration seated in Hong Kong under the 2018 HKIAC Rules in relation to digital currency collateralisation
  • acting for a global banking and financial services institution in an ad hoc arbitration seated in Hong Kong under a pension scheme
  • advising a multinational food service company in relation to a potential ICC arbitration seated in Hong Kong arising from the termination of a franchise arrangement
  • advising a northern European provider of energy and marine equipment and services in relation to a potential ICC arbitration seated in Paris arising from the supply of engines and generators for two power projects in Southeast Asia 
  • advising a State-owned entity in relation to potential ICC arbitration against a State-controlled owner/operator regarding the design and construction of a port facility in the South Pacific
  • advising a NYSE-listed apparel company in a potential ad hoc arbitration seated in Hong Kong under the UNCITRAL Rules in relation to the supply and shipment of garments by a South Asian conglomerate
  • acted for a Hong Kong subsidiary of a North American construction company in defending against a £25 million arbitration seated in Hong Kong brought by a State-owned contractor in relation to the design of an infrastructure project under the HKIAC Domestic Arbitration Rules

Wesley has authored publications and spoken widely on international arbitration.

Wesley is a member of the SIAC Reserve Panel of Arbitrators and the KCAB Panel of International Arbitrators. In addition, Wesley is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Journal of International Law of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization, a member of the ICC-HK Committee on Arbitration, a member of L'Institut pour l'Arbitrage International and ADR Committee and a Vice-Chair of the Central/East Asia & China Committee of the American Bar Association.

Wesley is also an Adjunct Associate Professor with the University of Hong Kong where he is the course convenor for the Arbitration Practice, Procedure & Drafting module (LLAW6157) for the LL.M in Arbitration & Dispute Resolution.

In addition to his professional activities in the are of international arbitration, Wesley also serves as a member of the Social Sustainability Committe of the British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong.
