Richard heads our labour department at Eversheds Sutherland (KZN) Inc. as a specialist consultant in labour law, industrial relations and alternative dispute resolutions.

Examples of Richards experience include:

– Extensive experience, an excess of thirty years, appearing and presenting cases in labour law tribunals including the now defunct industrial law court, magistrates’ courts, supreme courts, labour courts, labour appeal courts, commission for conciliation, mediation and arbitration, bargaining councils, private arbitrations and various other statutory tribunals.

– Involved in all aspects of labour law involving drafting of employment contracts, collective agreements, policies and procedures, recognition agreements, pleadings, opinions and labour related documents.

– Interaction with unions and employees in wage disputes, labour related issues and giving employers general and specialised advise and strategic guidance in their business in respect of industrial relations.

– Presiding over disciplinary enquiries and labour arbitrations, acting as a mediator in labour disputes and conducting investigations into misconduct and related matters.


– Labour arbitrator and mediator for Tokiso a private dispute settlement organisation.

– Previously a small claims court commissioner (+/- 14 years)

– KwaZulu-Natal law councillor +/- 8 years

– Served as chairman on various boards of diverse organisations
