Philip is passionate about data-driven innovation and strategy. He specialises in data privacy, cyber security and information rights.
Philip guides clients through the issues arising from the creation, licensing and exploitation of rights in content, data and software on mobile, cloud and new media platforms.
Philip has in-depth experience in data privacy and information law, especially regarding data strategy, regulatory compliance and risk management, cyber risk, big data, AI, automation, biometrics, behavioral targeting, loyalty and social media (and its influence).
Philip has a specific interest in Open Data & an Open Life (and the trust frameworks required to enable digital communities to flourish).
Philip has undertaken no less than six secondments to a variety of TMT and financial services companies, including as acting Head of Legal for Nokia (UK) (non-contentious) - as a result, Philip is used to acting as a natural extension of the in-house legal team’s (as well as ensuring our advice is as solution-driven and pragmatic as possible).
Philip’s clients include leading fraud prevention and cyber security agencies, financial services institutions, fintech companies and some of the world’s largest TMT clients and vendors. Experience includes:
- product counseling for a variety of innovative applications and solutions involving data and/or personal data assets and the various privacy and intellectual property issues associated with such services
- advising a leading global insurer on a pioneering telematics product and its associated data privacy impact assessment (DPIA) to identify potential regulatory risk areas and commercial opportunities
- advising a pay-as-you-fly drone insurer on a cutting edge partnership with a global insurer and its associated representative arrangements
- advising an online live casino solutions provider on its long-term partnership with an international gambling operator and associated territorial license framework
- advising leading governmental sports agencies, associations and technology platforms on open data hubs, GDPR compliance, international data transfers and implementation of API models and associated distribution channels
