Carlos is a Senior Associate in our Commercial Dispute Resolution team in London. Carlos specialises in high value domestic and multi-jurisdictional disputes in both High Court proceedings and international arbitration, and has experience across a range of industry sectors, including private equity, banking, energy, insurance, manufacturing, transport, telecommunications, media and property.

His recent dispute experience includes advising on contractual disputes; corporate and shareholder governance issues; joint-venture and partnership disputes; jurisdictional disputes; insolvency matters; applications for urgent injunctive relief, such as worldwide freezing orders; IT and outsourcing disputes; and commercial fraud cases. In Carlos’ recent work he has:

  • Advised a private equity fund in relation to a £50 million pound claim against the seller of a company for breach of warranties and indemnities given in a Share Purchase Agreement.
  • Represented an energy company in respect of a claim arising from the construction of an offshore farm.
  • Advised employers on various matters, including a judicial review claim brought by a former employee and the enforcement of restrictive covenants in employees' contracts of employment.
  • Represented a Spanish multinational in a dispute with a corporate finance advisory boutique in respect of fees due in relation to a major debt restructuring, and which involved successfully defending a challenge to the jurisdiction of the English court to hear the dispute in Spain.
  • Provided advice in relation to various dispute resolution procedures and mechanisms in the rail industry, including advising on an appeal to the Office of Rail and Road.
  • Acted on a $20m arbitration in the oil and gas sector in relation to misrepresentation and breach of contract.
  • Advised a Saudi royal family member in a claim against a leading global publication for defamation.
  • Acted for a leading property investment fund in an alleged joint venture dispute relating to a £200 million prime London development.
  • Prepared injunction applications, including an application to enforce a post-termination restriction in an employment contract and obtaining a worldwide freezing order in the Commercial Court against defendants in various jurisdictions.
  • Acted for a U.S. software company in connection with the recovery of license fees for breach of a commodity trading and risk management contract by a foreign oil and gas company.
  • Advised on various judgment enforcement issues, including advising on enforcement of an award against a Nigerian bank.

Carlos is a member of the London Solicitors Litigation Association, International Association for Young Lawyers, the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum and the LCIA's Young International Arbitration Group.

Carlos speaks Portuguese fluently, has an advanced level of Spanish, and provides pro-bono advice at the Mary Ward Legal Centre in Holborn, London.
