Practice notes

Richard is an energy and infrastructure partner in our construction and engineering group and co-head of the firm’s offshore transmission team. Richard advises on the acquisition, financing, construction, operation and divestment of international clean energy projects.

Richard is also an expert in the offshore wind and offshore transmission sectors with deep first-hand knowledge of the specific issues arising in the construction and operation of offshore wind farms and interconnectors. To date, Richard has advised developers, investors and financiers on the construction and operation of over 25 offshore wind farms and 11 interconnectors around the world.

Examples of projects Richard has recently advised on include advising:

  • EirGrid Plc and RTE on the construction of the Celtic Interconnector between Ireland and France;
  • Glennmont Partners on the acquisition, construction and financing of the 211MW Piiparinmaki wind farm in Finland, the largest wind farm in Finland and one of the largest unsubsidised wind farms in Europe;
  • A US energy company on the acquisition and operation of the offshore transmission line for an offshore wind farm off the coast of New York
  • on the development and divestment of two of the UK’s largest greenhouses, warmed by waste heat from water treatment facilities in a world first.
