Practice notes

Ed is a Principal Associate in our Commercial Contracts team in London. He has experience in delivering large international outsourcing deals for clients, providing support on agency, distribution and services agreements and working alongside colleagues on delivering major joint commercial/corporate projects.

Ed's most recent outsourcing experience involves advising one of the UK's largest retailers and leading UK supermarket operators on the outsourcing of its logistics functions, including its warehousing, transportation and business to business export services to a third party supplier. The arrangement, representing the client's largest commercial arrangement, is worth in excess of £250m over its initial 3 year term.

Ed also took the lead in advising the world's largest building society on the outsourcing of its facilities management ("FM") services and capital projects across its entire property portfolio. This major outsourcing, worth £350m, represented the client's biggest ever commercial agreement and means that the outsourced services are successfully being delivered to the client's HQ, data centres, 15 corporate offices and all of its 700 high street outlets.

Ed has assisted one of the world's largest life sciences with the global outsourcing of their FM functions and a diversified industrial sector client's FM outsourcing which spanned over seventy countries in Latin America, Asia Pacific, Europe, South Africa and the Middle East.

Ed also advises various clients on their agency and distribution networks primarily across Africa and the Middle East. He has experience working on agency and distribution advice with Eversheds Sutherland colleagues in Italy and Germany and local firms in Angola, Nigeria, Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

Contracts with teeth - the future of outsourcing

Ed has recently co-authored the thought leadership report "Delivering contracts with teeth" - the future of outsourcing. This report was produced from the results of a prior survey, conducted with the National Outsourcing Association, looking at which contractual provisions in outsourcing agreements are actually being used by customers at the coalface, to ensure that their suppliers perform.
