James is a corporate partner specialising in M & A, private equity, fund raising and joint venture work. His clients describe him as "inspiring confidence", "proactive and very commercial" and "he gets results .. he is a winner."

He is client partner for a number of international corporates, leading cross border teams on deals and helping to deliver other Eversheds services across the world.

His notable transactions include:

  • the sales of Fulcrum and Advantica for National Grid 
  • acquisition of Garrad Hassan for Germanischer Lloyd 
  • £127m public takeover of Castle Securities for Sulzer AG 
  • acquisition of Worldmark International for Barclays Private Equity 
  • acquisition of Floors2Go for the Hodges family 
  • MBO and subsequent sale of Ramesys E-Business for Lloyds Development Capital 
  • £1.14bn sale of Trader Media to Guardian Media Group 
  • a series of strategic acquisitions across Europe for Sims Metal Management 
  • acquisition of  Niagara Lasalle for Endless LLP 
  • MBO and subsequent sale of Promanex Group for NVM and management

James has been heavily involved in our international business representing the firm at conferences, regularly working with our international network. He is also a member of the Eversheds India Group.

He has featured in articles on private equity, retail deal activity, international transaction management and cross border M&A in a broad range of publications including Financier Worldwide, the European Lawyer and Real Deals.

James has spent nine months on secondment as Head of Legal at Specsavers where he was been involved in a wide range of non-corporate legal issues in addition to fund raising and acquisitions. He has twice been voted Insider Young Legal Dealmaker.
