Practice notes

Alexander is a legal director in the litigation and dispute management practice in our Doha office and he is part of our Middle East construction team.

Alex regularly acts for contractors, consultants, employers and funders in Qatar and the wider Middle East. He is experienced in both contentious and non-contentious matters, and prides himself on his ability to support a client from the inception of a project, provide commercial and pragmatic advice at all stages of the project life-cycle, take a firm and reliable lead in commercial negotiations and mediations to push a project to completion, and provide thorough and cost effective solutions when arbitration or litigation is unavoidable.

International arbitration under QICCA, ICC, LCIA and local rules is Alexander’s specialism, and he regularly leads local and international arbitral proceedings, as well as DABs, expert determinations and mediations.

Alex combines a clear and succinct advisory style with a detailed understanding of industry issues and local law. He has substantial experience in preparing advice on a range of issues, including termination and suspension, delay and disruption, acceleration, damages, bonds, debt recovery and professional liability.

In addition, Alex is experienced in drafting and negotiating construction documentation, such as development agreements (including FIDIC, NEC, Ashghal forms), consultancy contracts, warranties and bonds.

Alex has lived and worked in Doha since 2014. Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Alex was a managing associate at Simmons & Simmons in Doha.

Alex is recognized by Chambers Global 2020 as an Associate to Watch for Dispute Resolution: International Firms – Qatar and is described as "very strong … energetic, smart and sharp in picking up points."
