Practice notes

Julia is a partner in our Competition, EU and Trade group. She has 20 years’ experience advising clients on EU and UK competition issues across a broad range of matters including the application of competition law to strategic collaborations, trade practices and agreements (including information sharing); abuse of dominance as well as representing clients who are the subject of regulatory investigation. Julia has a particular focus advising clients subject to cartel investigations as well as competition issues in the financial services sector.

Her recent experience includes: acting for one of the manufacturer’s subject to the European Commission’s cartel investigation in the trucks sector, including the first successful post-Statement of Objections settlement; advising one of two manufactures in a settlement with the Competition & Markets Authority in respect of a cartel investigation into the solid fuels market; representing a main party in the Financial Conduct Authority’s first Competition Act investigation; advising a client in the Payment Systems Regulator’s first competition investigation; acting for a client in the Competition & Market Authority’s Market Investigation into investment consultancy; acting for a pharmaceuticals client subject to a European Commission abuse of dominance investigation

Julia also advises extensively on competition law compliance, including implementing global compliance programmes as well as devising and delivering face to face and online training.

Julia spent 6 months on secondment to the Competition & Markets Authority as a Deputy Director in the Cartels and Criminal Enforcement Unit where she gained particular experience of managing leniency applications and criminal casework and has spent an extended period on secondment in-house to American Express as acting head of anti-trust and payments regulation for EMEA.

Julia is a regular speaker on competition law issues and is recognised in Legal 500.

Winners of the Global Competition Review award for behavioural matter of the year (Europe). This was for the creative, strategic and innovative work carried out in a non-merger matter before an enforcer in Europe.
