Practice notes

Stephen is a partner in the litigation and dispute resolution department having trained with the firm. He has extensive experience in litigation and mediation across a range of areas including shareholder disputes, IP, professional negligence and contractual claims. He has specific expertise in the planning and environmental sector and has represented multinational clients in judicial reviews  and in securing and defending interlocutory applications.

His clients include, state bodies, publically quoted bodies, utility providers, developers, employers and insurers on contentious matters including major commercial and environmental disputes.

He leads our Health and Safety Group and has acted on behalf of a number of clients in successfully defending criminal prosecutions brought by the Health and Safety Authority.

He is also an accredited CEDR mediator.

Stephen’s recent experience includes:

  • Securing a Norwich Pharmacal Order against an internet service provider to ascertain the source from which abusive and defamatory electronic communications were emanating. 
  • Advising a large retailer in a landlord and tenant dispute in respect of its flagship store. 
  • Defending a multi-jurisdictional Stg£30 million auditor professional negligence action brought by the UK administrators of a global online trading company. 
  • Advising a wind farm developer in defending judicial review proceedings in respect of grid connection works.
  • Advising clients including media outlets on media and internet related disputes including platform liability.
  • Undertaking a regulatory review for a global client assessing compliance with Environmental and Health and Safety obligations
  • Advising the majority shareholder of an online retail chain in relation to injunctive proceedings and subsequent minority shareholder oppression proceedings in the Commercial Court division of the High Court.
  • Acting in defence of a criminal and civil regulatory case, involving a €100m cross border claim for contamination of animal feed in Holland, Belgium and Ireland.
  • Advising a company board in respect of a HSA investigation of a workplace fatality 
  • Advising an online retailer in respect of a criminal investigation of the Czech Republic’s tax authorities on allegations of VAT carousel fraud that involved submitting evidence the Irish investigative authorities.
