Practice notes

Ben Conway is an employment lawyer in our commercial department.

He brings a cross border perspective to employment law issues. Prior to being admitted to the roll of solicitors in Ireland in 2019, he practised law in the UK and he originally qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales in 2008.

While Ben can advise your organisation on all aspects of employment law, his practice has a particular focus on the application of the TUPE regulations and the labour law implications of outsourcings, retenderings, and restructurings. He is also regularly instructed to prepare executive service agreements and to advise on senior level exits.

Ben works for clients in both the private and public sectors. He spent a significant portion of his career at the UK Government Legal Department, most recently working in the legal team at the Department for Transport.

Ben's recent client experience includes:

  • reviewing a public sector body's external whistle-blowing policy in light of the new requirements for reporting channels and procedures put in place by the Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Act 2022;
  • helping retail clients to understand whether their sick pay policies are compatible with the new statutory sick pay scheme introduced by the Sick Leave Act 2022; and
  • advising on the Irish employment law aspects of the restructuring of a global aircraft lessor.

He is a member of the Employment Law Association of Ireland, Employment Lawyers Association (UK), and the European Employment Lawyers Association and also delivers a lecture on employment law and insolvency as part of the Law Society of Ireland’s Diploma in Employment Law
