Practice notes

Anthony is a Partner in our Litigation and Dispute Management Practice Group. He has a broad financial services and utilities background with 20 years’ experience advising lenders, insurers and utility companies on litigation, remediation and regulatory issues.

Anthony is recognised for his expertise in contentious issues arising from all debt types. He advises on recoveries, complaints, remediation and regulatory issues. His reported cases include a claim for £111m arising from the failure of an IT software company - Essentially Different plc v. Bank of Scotland plc [2011] EWHC 475 (Comm). He is responsible for Eversheds Sutherland’s mortgage enforcement team: 50 litigators bringing residential mortgage repossession claims on behalf of 20 top UK and Irish lenders.

Anthony also leads a dedicated insurance and utilities litigation team providing innovative recovery and fraud solutions to insurers such as Lloyds and L&G and leading utilities including Severn Trent and Western Power Distribution. The team deals with claims from volume debt recovery to multi-million pound asset damage claims. Significant cases include Keates v. Haringey LBC [2010] UKUT 392 (LC), Central Networks East plc v. Integrated Services Limited (1) Murphy Limited (2) TCC [2010] (unreported) and Cordin & Others v. Newport City Council [2009] EWHC (TCC).

He has a particular interest in contentious issues arising from digitisation in the financial services sector and contributes to the Eversheds Sutherland FS and Fintech Digital Group.

Anthony regularly speaks at industry events and conferences, as well as providing tailored thought leadership events to clients. A Legal 500 leading individual, he is recognised as The ‘unflappable’ and ‘enormously effective’ within our Tier 1 practice for debt and professional negligence. He sits on the Policy and Reform Committee of the Civil Court Users Association.
