Richard is a technology, outsourcing and cyber lawyer helping suppliers and customers strategically negotiate complex deals.
Richard is a Partner with experience advising on technology, outsourcing and cyber deals.
He advises on both the customer and supplier side of deals globally across a full range of technology issues. This includes experience in advising on outsourcing, software and hardware arrangements, Internet of Things, services agreements, agile developments, cloud supply arrangements, open-source software, infrastructure changes, cyber security, software developments and data center agreements.
Richard is passionate about contracts being clear, succinct and in "plain" English, even for the most complex issues. This is an approach that Richard adopts when regularly creating precedent and playbook document sets for his clients. These enable clients to reduce their own legal team's investment time on an ongoing basis.
Richard has a particular interest and experience acting for financial institutions regarding outsourcing and technology arrangements, including advising on the technology that enables payment services to be carried out.
Richard is a very active public speaker and has presented hundreds of times to both lawyers and non-business teams both in person, online and via webinar.
Richard's recent experience includes:
- advising on a £multimillion software deal of a business-critical nature for a large global engineering organization
- advising a leading global diversified industrials client in respect of its SAP hosting arrangements
- advising a number of market-leading banks in respect of various strategically important, regulated and high-value technology outsourcing arrangements
- creating a set of precedent technology documents and an accompanying playbook for a leading European Bank
- advising a global chemicals company regarding a large number of interconnected international supply arrangements forming part of a $1 billion transaction
In addition, Richard has undertaken a six-month secondment with HMRC in its technology and complex projects team.
