Carolyn is an Associate in the commercial dispute resolution team in London, advising clients across a number of sectors. She has experience working in both the London and Paris offices on commercial and investment arbitrations and public international law matters.

Her recent experience includes:

  • Acting for a Dutch client in a commercial arbitration before the ICC with an Iraqi State-owned entity over the disposal of a crude-oil wreck.
  • Representing a North African State in defending investment treaty claims brought by investors pursuant to the Treaty of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC Treaty).
  • Acting for a Middle-Eastern State in a multi-billion dollar public international law dispute relating to military goods and services.
  • Acting for a national oil company in a multi-billion dollar dispute relating to claims for non-performance of a gas sales contract before the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague.
  • Acting for a consumer goods business in an arbitration defending claims for tens of millions of pounds under the Commercial Agents (Council Directive) Regulations 1993. The case involves issues as to whether those regulations apply to the parties’ cost-sharing arrangement, and about the sharing of costs and liabilities as that arrangement is wound down.
  • Representing a Dutch investor in ICSID proceedings against a North African State regarding the expropriation of the investor’s assets in the water sewerage infrastructure industry.

Carolyn also has an interest in ESG disputes and has helped provide training to governments and corporations on ESG claims in an investor-State context.

Carolyn is a Solicitor qualified in England and Wales, and holds a BA(Honours) in English Literature and Political Science from Queen’s University in Canada and an LL.B. from Queen Mary University of London. She is a dual Canadian and British national.
