Practice notes

Emma is a senior associate in our construction and engineering team. She has a broad range of experience of international construction work, including high value disputes.

Emma specialises in the later living sector, acting for developers of integrated retirement communities and nursing homes.

Having spent several years practising in the Middle East, Emma is experienced advising on a range of procurement models across a variety of jurisdictions, and standard form contracts including FIDIC and JCT.

Emma's experience includes:

  • acting for a national luxury retirement village operator on the construction of and £500m debt and equity financing of a development, which was the first transaction of its kind in the market. Including hiving construction assets into relevant SPVs, passing down and negotiating funder requirements and managing provision of relevant construction security documents;
  • negotiating and placing suites of construction documents for high end retirement villages across a portfolio of 4 properties in the UK with a combined value of £250m against a background of complex JV structures and external finance;
  • delivering construction documents in connection with the development 4 luxury, award winning, care and nursing homes, with a combined build value of over £84m. We advised in connection with the development, negotiation and completion of professional team appointments, building contracts and associated warranties, guarantees and bonds and external debt finance, and provide ongoing project advisory support;
  • acting for a specialist defence subcontractor on a claim for AED350m under DIAC rules in UAE, including coordination with related sub-subcontractor claims in Paris;
  • acting for a specialist systems subcontractor in relation to a US$4.5million claim under ICC Rules in UAE
