Practice notes

Luke is an associate in the company commercial practice group and is based in the Dubai office. Luke acts for corporate borrowers and financial institutions on a variety of transactions including leveraged/acquisition finance, project finance, real estate finance and general corporate banking.

Luke acts for a range of international and Middle East financial institutions and advises borrowers on their loan and security documentation. Luke was recently on secondment to Standard Chartered Bank for six months, supporting its global banking legal team.

Luke’s experience includes advising:

• a global bank on a secured syndicated term facility of AED2.5bn for an international borrower to part finance the acquisition of a portfolio of retail assets

• a regional borrower in respect of a secured syndicated Islamic facility of US$227m arranged by a Middle East lender to be used for the purpose of financing the construction and development of a number of sites in Dubai

• a Dubai construction company in respect of AED1.3bn project financing facilities provided by a syndicate of Middle East banks for the construction of Deira Mall

• a syndicate of international banks on the US$350m syndicated refinancing of a global hotel group

• a local borrower in respect of secured facilities of AED10m and US$28m from two Middle East banks to be used for working capital, to satisfy the group’s outstanding obligations with certain suppliers

• a financier on a US$30m receivables-backed structured trade finance term loan to an international borrower group

• a real estate investment trust on a syndicated SAR1.1bn (equivalent to US$373m) facility arranged by a Middle East bank

• the sponsors on the syndicated facility being provided to three Egyptian feed-in-tariff solar photovoltaic power projects by a syndicate of Middle East banks
