Practice notes

Anton is a principal associate in our Moscow office, his practice is focused on tax law. Anton is experienced in tax structuring and consulting on various VAT and CPT complexities of domestic and international transactions, tax risk assessments, tax due diligence as well as supporting clients during tax audits and litigation.

Anton also has a competitive portfolio of successful court and pre-litigation cases, participates on the regular basis in the legislative process as an expert and is recognized as a member of the Expert Council of the Legislative Commission of the Moscow City Duma. From business industries perspective Anton has a strong experience in transport and digital sectors, especially in railways, aviation, e-commerce and IT.

Anton’s recent experience includes:

  • preparation of tax advice on comprehensive contractual relations restructuring and VAT recovery in the total amount of more than EUR 27 million for a German multinational corporation in the engineering sector;
  • provision of tax advice on new service agreement and corporate structure for the world’s largest accommodation provider;
  • successful support of a major Russian transport company in the tax dispute where tax authorities re-qualified Financial Support Contributions Agreement to deed of discharge and charged additional CPT in the amount over USD 11 million;
  • consulting and support of foreign companies from over 15 jurisdictions in their business restructuring due to the new VAT rules for e-services;
  • preparation of tax due diligence for major air carrier, which covered determination of tax risks related to corporate profit, VAT, payroll and transport taxes;
  • development of new VAT rules for low-value goods in Russia based on OECD’s Action 1 BEPS Plan and best worldwide tax practice as well as ongoing representation of clients’ position under government authorities in this matter.

In addition Anton was involved as a tax expert within developments and reviews of Federal Law # 244-FZ on 3 July 2016 (VAT on the electronically supplied services in Russia) and Federal Law # 382-FZ on 29 October 2014 (application of the VAT zero rate to the transfer and transit air carriage).

Anton holds a PhD in Law from National Research University Higher School of Economics. Also Anton is lecturing at the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Institute of Tax Management and Real Estate Economics within the courses “Strategic tax planning and risk management”, “Tax advocacy” and others.
