Practice notes

Mikhail is heading our commercial, corporate and M&A practice in Russia and is also overseeing our Saint Petersburg office. His key specialization is to provide comprehensive legal support in the acquisition and sale of businesses, to set up JVs, and in corporate reorganizations. Mikhail also has substantial experience supporting investment projects at all stages of the investment cycle, assisting clients in resolving issues of investment structuring, real estate and construction, corporate law, and planning their future exit from projects.

For over 20 years, Mikhail has been advising clients on a wide range of complex issues in their commercial activities, including within competition law, labor law and contractual issues. A specialist in negotiations, Mikhail regularly helps clients resolve disputes with counterparties at the pre-trial stage. Mikhail’s client portfolio has traditionally included a number of companies in the primary and secondary sectors, and he is well-versed in several industries, including the agricultural sector, mechanical engineering and shipbuilding.

Mikhail holds a PhD in Law from St. Petersburg State University.

For several years, Mikhail Timonov has been the co-head of the Legal and Investment Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Saint Petersburg, which has become an important platform for professional meetings and networking in the region.

  • assisted a leading Nordic food producer in disposing of real estate asset in Saint Petersburg, Russia
  • assisted a UK private equity fund in selling its timber business in Russia
  • advised a publicly listed US-based corporate & financial services provider in its contractual relations with a Russian state-owned bank
  • assisted CB&I, a leading provider of technology and infrastructure for the energy industry, with carrying out the Russian segment of an international acquisition for USD 6bn
  • assisted Rolls-Royce with the Russian segment of the sale of its Marine Business to Kongsberg Gruppen ASA for GBP 500m
  • assisted a global leader in smart technologies and complete lifecycle solutions for the marine and energy markets with carrying out the Russian segment of the acquisition of a market leader within marine navigation solutions for EUR 210m
