Practice notes

Wei En is an Associate in our Matrimonial and Family Team. He specialises in all areas of family and matrimonial law such as disputes over children’s issues, maintenance for wives and children, family violence, division of matrimonial assets and cross-border custody/care and control issues.

His recent experience includes: representing the plaintiff wife in the reported case of TME v TMF [2016] SGHCF 6 in the Family Division of the High Court. Wei En successfully argued for an adverse inference to be drawn against the husband in the case and the wife was awarded 42% of the pool of matrimonial assets (or about S$11.3 million); acting for the appellant husband in an appeal to the Family Division of the High Court, successfully persuading the judge that the Family Court had committed an error of law and that the entire sale proceeds (instead of just 45%) from the sale of parties’ matrimonial home ought to be given to the husband; successfully defending  an application for the matrimonial home to be sold during the course of the ancillary matters proceedings on the basis that the Family Justice Courts does not have the jurisdiction to make such orders. The application was dismissed with costs.

Wei En is a regular speaker at the Singapore Council of Women Organisations, having given talks in Chinese in 2015 (on the issue of maintenance) and 2016 (on the Singapore divorce process). He is also a regular volunteer with the Law Society Family Legal Clinic in the Family Justice Courts.

Wei En was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in August 2014.
